It is estimated that 1 to 2 million tons of plastic enter the oceans annually from rivers. Rivers are major conduits of trash, including plastic waste, into oceans. This waste poses a significant threat to drinking water quality, as it can introduce pollutants, bacteria, and viruses that contaminate water sources, leading to potential health risks. Trash capture technologies have been developed to remove trash from waterways.
In this panel discussion, we will hear from several organizations implementing this technology in Arkansas and the messages they are spreading to preserve water quality that is suitable for drinking, agricultural use, and recreation for future generations.
